We are not traditional textbook publishers who will lavish you with as many weighty free copies as you can carry. We have to sell our books to stay in business. But many of our books make ideal texts in advanced courses or as supplements in introductory classes. Therefore, we can send you copies of our books for your courses based on the following guidelines:
If you have already made the decision to assign our book for your course: We are happy to provide desk copies to instructors, provided there are enough students in your class - usually 10 students or more. Please contact Ryan at explore@lcoastpress.com with the following information:
- the title of the book you are requesting
- the name of your university
- the name and number of the course for which you are requiring the book
- what semester(s) or quarter(s) the course will be taught
- how many students you expect in the course
- the bookstore where you are placing the order for your students
If you are considering using one of our books: We can provide examination copies to instructors in one of two ways.
Digital examination copies: The quickest, simplest, easiest way is to send you a 90-day digital exam copy via email. Digital copies of our books can arrive in your hands immediately, are better for the environment, and do not have to be shipped back to our distributor if the book does not work for your course. Just contact Ryan at explore@lcoastpress.com with the class information listed above and the date by which you need to make your decision. We will email you a link to download the eBook with instructions for reading it in Adobe Digital Editions (it's free, from the makers of Acrobat). The file will disable in 90 days. If after reviewing the title you choose to require the book for your course, let us know and we will send you a desk copy as per the rules above.
Paper examination copies: If you prefer the feel of a traditional book, or if we do not have a digital copy of the book available, we can also send out physical examination copies. These copies are sent out with an invoice for the book at a 15% discount. We need the information about the class from you as above. At the end of the 90 day review period, you may choose to (a) let us know that you have assigned the book for your course, (b) decline to adopt the book, keep it for your own use, and pay the discounted invoice, or (c) ship the book - in saleable condition - back to our distributor at your own expense.
