The Publisher

Mitch Allen has 30 years experience in academic and professional publishing. He launched Left Coast Press, Inc. after leaving his position as Publisher of AltaMira Press, which he founded and directed for its first ten years. AltaMira became a leading provider of information on museum practice, cultural resources management, public history and applied anthropology, among other topics, under Mitch's leadership. Prior to running AltaMira, he served as Executive Editor for Sage Publications, a leading social science publisher. He has been responsible for publishing almost 1000 books, dozens of professional journals, and several software products in his career.

Mitch is also an archaeologist (Ph.D., UCLA) who publishes regularly in that field. He is Adjunct Professor of Anthropology at Mills College in Oakland, CA and has also taught at Santa Clara University and University of Maryland.

Jennifer Collier, Senior Editor, was Acquisitions Editor for AltaMira Press and Executive Editor for University of Alaska Press before joining the staff of Left Coast. Vida Prater, Chief Financial Officer and Director of Left Coast Academic Consulting, comes to the press after retiring from almost three decades of running the cluster of major and minor programs in international and area studies at University of California, Berkeley. Vida is also an archaeologist and has a background in finance and organizational management.

Caryn Berg, Archaeology Marketing, is an archaeologist by training who earned her Ph.D. from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She spent over 10 years as an educator, teaching at several Colorado universities. She has also worked as a consulting archaeologist, primarily in the American Southwest, Great Basin, Plains, and Midwest. She is based in Denver, Colorado.

Stefania Van Dyke, Museums Marketing, is a museum educator who has worked in museums in New York, Chicago, and Miami. She has an M.A. in Art History and an M.S.Ed in Museum Education, and has also worked as a freelance exhibition writer. She is based in Denver, Colorado.

Jennifer de Garmo, Anthropology Marketing, has worked in environmental and community organizing for the Natural Resources Defense Council, Sierra Club, Montana Wilderness Association, Idaho Rural Council, and VISTA. She is also a Spanish speaker who has taught English to middle-school students in Tlaucotepec, Mexico, and she holds a BA in anthropology. Jennifer is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico:
